Detoxing has become a huge trend in the past several decades and for good reason. The idea of detoxing, or riding your body of all the toxins that build up inside, is a great way of getting your body working at optimum again.
Detoxing has been proven to help people feel better, improving their focus and giving them more energy as well as help with weight loss. The only problem is trying to decide what detox system to use.
Every choice we make in life has an effect on us, every action has a reaction and these can both be positive or negative.
There is a high number of ‘toxic’ elements in our lifestyles, some of them are beyond our control but most of them come through our choice in nutrition and how we manage day to day life.
Instead of choosing the ‘unhealthy route’ or thinking that there is nothing that can be done to reverse damage, believe that you can make a change for the better by cleansing your body.
It is never too late to improve or change and our 10 steps to detoxing your body can get you feeling fitter and healthier in no time.
If you’re looking for a few ideas on how to detox and want to know what steps to take, check out the tips below.
1. Stay Hydrated – Drink Water!
Water is the preferred fluid for detoxing. Not only will drinking more water help your body stay hydrated, but it will also flush out the toxins in your body faster.
If you get bored with water easily, try infusing it with a few organic fruits and cinnamon. Citrus fruits (lemon in particular), cucumber and strawberry are great for detox and add a little bit of flavor to your water, without adding any calories.
You are supposed to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
2. Go Cold Turkey on Chemicals and Artificial Additives
Many will blare their horns at this one for stating the obvious, BUT weaning yourself from chemical laden products, artificial enhancers, sweeteners, white flour products and simple sugars you can give your neurotransmitters a well-deserved break.
These type of foods create cravings, addictions and slow your metabolic system, meaning less calories burned and increased fat cell storage and more toxins retained in your body!
Give this a try for a ten day period and you will feel brand new by the end of it.
3. Avoid GMOs
The food you eat can be potentially harmful to you, especially those that aren’t organic. If you want to avoid the toxins from GMO filled foods, go organic. You’ll be eating fewer of the chemicals that are used in foods and meats these days.

4. Cut out Sugar
This is a hard one, but sugar does so much damage to the body, causing things like weight gain, diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer.
Cutting out sugars will not only improve how you feel, but will also help balance your moods and improve your skin. If you’re buying packaged items, make sure to read the labeling, since sugar is put into many products these days.
5. Switch Your Toiletries/Skincare Products
Toxins aren’t just absorbed through what you eat, they’re also absorbed through what you put on your skin. Look over the ingredients in your hair care products, soaps and face washes, and your makeups.
You might be surprised at the number of chemicals you’re putting on your body every day. There are several companies who provide natural toiletries and skincare products, which won’t do your body harm.
6. Defeat Bad Habits
This almost goes without saying, but if you want to start living healthier, you should cut out harmful habits, like smoking and drinking.
Smoking deteriorates the body at rapid rates. And, while alcohol isn’t as harmful, it is toxic to the body. It causes serious dehydration and causes chemical imbalances in the body.
7. Simplify Your Surroundings
Detoxing isn’t all about what goes into your body, though that is a huge part of it. If you want to do a full detox, you need to cleanse your surroundings as well.
If you live in clutter, your mind won’t be as at ease as it should be. If you want to fully detox your body, you need to simplify your living and working space.
8. Sweat it Out in the Sauna
Those of you who enjoy a relaxing sauna may be in luck – Susan S.Blum is the assistant clinical professor at the Icahn School of Medicine in Mount Sinai, New York.
She was also the author of The Immune System Recovery Plan and was noted saying that “Saunas have been used as part of detox protocols in integrative medicine for decades,” especially infrared saunas that mimic the effects of the sun’s rays minus UV damage.
As your body accustoms to the temperature and blood flow increases, many toxins that are stored in body are released including pesticides, drugs and BPA (found in plastics)
2-3 fifteen minute sessions a week are enough to get a positive effect from the process. IF you choose to do this be sure to drink plenty of water to keep hydrated.
9. One Word…Vegetables
Mother always told us to eat our vegetables and this is great advice for so many reasons. Fibrous vegetables like cauliflower, kale, cabbage, bok choy and spinach contain phytonutrients and promote the production of glutathione (an antioxidant).
There is a great deal of other detox power-foods available such as dandelion greens; they help to regulate the flow of bile in your liver.
Celery acts as a diuretic and makes you urinate more – the more you urinate they more toxins to get rid of. Cilantro can remove metals such as mercury and lead from your body.
If you keep consuming these super-detox foods your body will be cleansed sooner than later.
10. Don’t Fight Detoxing Alone, Use Detox Products
Glutathione is naturally produced in the body and has many protective properties too, things like illness, pollution and stress can all deplete your natural levels of glutathione though.
A great way to replenish them is to bathe in Epsom salts, which contains sulphur, (glutathione is partly made up of sulphur so it all makes sense.)
Epsom salts also contain magnesium, which can help relax the body and help you sleep well, another important component of safe detoxification.
There are also several other safe natural detox remedies out there on the market that you can use to cleanse your body.
If you need something to kick-start your detox process, then a quality natural detox supplement can be of help. However, it is important to note that there are a lot of scam cleanse and detox products out there on the market. So, you really need to be very careful when choosing a detox product to use.
A good detox supplement should be one that has been proven to be effective, must contain all natural ingredients and be SAFE for your body and health.
