You stop eating foods that come from animals, some of the highest fat filled foods, and that can lead to an amazingly healthy lifestyle and weight loss. But, there’s a downside to veganism and it comes in the form of carbohydrates.

Cutting out meat, eggs, cheese, and milk is great, but if you’re used to having heavy meals made up of animal products, when you go vegan, you’ll be hungry! And guess what isn’t made with animal products?

Bread. And pasta. And Oreos. And those keep you full. See the problem?

If you decide to become vegan to lose weight, you’ll need to be extremely careful about your diet. Yes, having a few carbohydrates in your meals is a good thing, but you can’t go overboard.

Keep your meals plant based. Eat lots of green veggies, beans, even tofu! And for dessert, ditch the Oreos and grab your favorite type of fruit.

These have fewer calories than carbohydrates and eating enough of them will keep you from getting hungry.

Is Vegan Diet Healthy?

Another big concern people have when considering veganism is if it’s healthy or not. This question usually seems to be related to protein and if vegans get enough. Ask any vegan, or vegetarian for that matter, about protein and you’re sure to see a few eye rolls.

Yes! Veganism is great for your health! And yes, you can get enough protein. Spinach, kale, tofu, lentils, beans, and quinoa are all packed full of protein and also great for you!

So, don’t let protein protestors keep you from giving veganism a try.

To answer the lingering question: Yes, veganism can help you lose weight. And it won’t be a fad diet, where the weight falls off, but then slowly creeps back on. Veganism is a lifestyle change that will do just that: Change your life.

Once you’ve figured out how to make meals and snacks that work for you, you’ll find you’re losing weight without even thinking about it!
