If you have ever struggled with your weight, and really, who hasn’t? Then you are aware of the complications and hindrances that accost you each time you get back on the road to better health.
The truth is, there are at least 5 common problems we all face when attempting to shed the unwanted pounds.
While those may be hugely frustrating, there is hope for you in the midst of the battle. Let’s take a look at the issues we face and then let’s try to fight back!
Problem #1 – Exhaustion
This might seem like an odd thing to place on the top of this list, but in reality, diets and exercise can really drain you. There’s the calorie counting and getting up early to head to the gym.
Then of course there’s the battling your body to annihilate all those irritating cravings that sneak up on you throughout the day. Yes, indeed, weight loss attempts can be exhausting!
So what do you do? The key is to get enough rest and to make sure that the calories you are ingesting are suitable for sustaining energy.
This will take some time, but eventually you will be able to balance a proper caloric intake for your weight loss goals. You’ll also find that exercise can actually increase your energy levels!
Problem #2 – Eating Healthy
It makes the most sense to venture to this section next in an effort to assist you in the exhaustion arena.
Eating healthy is probably the number one way to adjust your weight. Invariably we tend to look for the fast and easy, or cheap, when it comes to what we put in our mouths.
That’s a huge problem when considering caloric input, fat grams and crazy-bad-for-you chemicals. Yet, if eating healthy were easy, we’d be in a lot better shape.
What’s the plan? That’s just it, you have to plan your meals so that you don’t eat out of hunger pain dilemmas and so you don’t eat on the run. In fact, whole foods are probably your best bet.
Make 80% of your diet plant-based and you can maintain that little stomach menace that demands cookies when it’s hungry.
Problem #3 – Craving Certain Foods
Food cravings aren’t just for pregnant ladies. In fact, if you’ve ever spent any time dieting you have noticed that the restrictive nature of many of them enhance your desire for all the bad things you’ve cut out.
Having a sweet tooth prior to venturing the diet road can be an extra difficult challenge for many of us. These treats are highly caloric and therefore incredibly difficult (basically impossible) to burn off with exercise.
Perhaps you’ve heard that diet is really 10% exercise and 90% what you put in your mouth.
How then do we avoid those oh-so-delicious-looking chocolate chip cookies? Cutting yourself off from the things you truly crave will only increase those cravings and more than likely trip you up.
There has to be an allotment for the occasional (and we do mean occasional) cookie within your weekly calorie count.
In addition, if it’s just the sugar that you’re desirous of, there are a number of calorie free (or reduced) alternatives.
Problem #4 – Hanging out with Friends
While your friends might want to see a healthier, more svelte, you, they also want you to meet them at Chili’s. Hanging out with your friends can often lead to cheat-inducing situations.
This is where will-power and planning must be key to your diet goals.
Thankfully, most restaurants are including the calorie counts for the foods they serve. They are also incorporating healthier meal alternatives within their menus. Make sure you plan for your outing.
If you know you’re going to be eating something with a higher calorie count than you should, make up for that by deleting calories from your other days.
Planning and self-control are the only things that will get you through the, “let’s share a molten chocolate cake,” dilemmas your friends present you with!
Problem #5 – Staying Motivated
Without motivation, discipline and self-control you are destined for failure. There are a number of things that will try to hinder your motivation.
Perhaps your kids will prevent you from getting enough sleep to get to the gym in the morning.
Maybe you’ll take off twenty pounds and then hit a plateau that just seems to never end. Recall the adage, no pain, no gain. This is decidedly true when it comes to weight loss.
Possibly the best hope you have for staying motivated is an accountability partner. It’s always beneficial to have someone in your corner whenever you’re on a self-improvement path.
There will be times when you’ll want to quit but if you’ve got someone cheering you on, then you’ll feel a sense of obligation that might just give you the motivational boost you need for the day.
